Hoad Slabs

  • 1 - Railway

    Grade: 4a | First Ascent: (Pre-1976)

    Climb the right side of the slab, then finish up the right-hand side of the top arête.

  • 2 - Devil`s Armchair

    Grade: 4a | First Ascent: (Pre-1976)
    Rating: 0

    Climb the central crack to the sentry-box near the top and finish direct. Classic.

  • 2a - Armchair Variant

    Grade: 4c | First Ascent: (Pre-1976)

    Move left from the sentry-box and finish up the slab.

  • 3 - Hoad Road

    Grade: 5a | First Ascent: -1978
    Rating: 0

    A straight eliminate starting midway between Devil`s Armchair and Airway. Climb the slab directly via a very vague crack. The thin top slab is the crux.

  • 4 - Airway

    Grade: 4b | First Ascent: (Pre-1976)
    Rating: 0

    Start six metres to the left of Devil`s Armchair and climb the thin crack to the large ledge. Move right on good holds and either finish directly up the left arête of the top slab, or, move left and climb the short slab and overhang direct.

  • 5 - Hoad Way

    Start from the lowest point of the slab and climb up to the large ledge, move right and up an easy-angled groove to an obvious, slightly rising footledge and follow this across the slab to the sentry-box on Devil`s Armchair. Move right round the top arête and finish up a groove.
